Who is Sara Carbonero?

Sara Carbonero – no, not a fancy new pasta sauce, but the girlfriend of Spanish football captain Iker Casillas – is being blamed for the team's World Cup defeat by Switzerland. But listen, we don't want to get into a Wag-themed debate over it all, we just want to know more about the sassy señorita!

Sara Carbonero: Chica guapa, olé!

Sara Carbonero Arévalo was born in Toledo, in the Spanish province of Castilla La Mancha, in 1984.

At Madrid's Universidad Complutense, some of her peers called her 'Tomb Raider' on account of her resemblance to a certain silver-screen temptress.


Though she hadn't finished her journalism degree at the uni, she kicked off her media career in the radio realm, covering musical content as well as sport.

She made her prime-time sport-covering mark as a sideline reporter at La Sexta, before moving to the Telecinco network to become deputy sport director.

Last year, American FHM rated her ahead of US sportscaster Erin Andrews and Romanian Simona Patruleasa as the sexiest sports reporter in the world.


Sara is renowned for her ability to bag interviews with male athletes when nobody else can. Hmm, wonder why...

La Carbonero, our leggy lovely

In April this year, at Telecinco's 20th anniversary gala in Madrid's Sports Palace, she broached the subject of Casillas in public for the first time, describing him as 'the best goalkeeper in the world'.

Before Spanish goalie and team captain Casillas, she went out with fellow sports journo David Sanchez who (according to rumours) announced their break-up on Facebook just before Valentine's Day. Ouch.


Last summer's Confederations Cup in South Africa is believed to be where los seeds of amor were sown between Sara and Iker, who apparently sent her a bouquet of flowers after being introduced to her (though she was still with Sanchez at the time, eeek).

When asked about gossip that Cristiano Ronaldo and Iker had placed a bet in the Real Madrid changing room to see which of one of them could pull her first, the Iberian minx replied: 'I think that the bet would be more likely to have been who will win the Champions League, no?'
